| spa |
| dc.description.abstractenglish | Introduction: Training planning in paracycling requires methods that allow training load to be individualized according to the physiological response of the para-athlete. In this context, it is relevant to compare Critical Power (CP) and Functional Threshold Power (FTP) as methods for training planning. Objective: To compare the acute effects of CP- and FTP-based training sessions on heart rate variability, blood lactate concentration, and ventilatory, respiratory, and cardiovascular responses in para-athletes. Materials and Methods: A repeated-measures case series study was conducted in four para-athletes. Maximal oxygen uptake (VO₂max), ventilatory thresholds, Critical Power (CP), and Functional Threshold Power (FTP) were determined, followed by two experimental training sessions, one based on each method. Cardiorespiratory variables, heart rate variability, and blood lactate concentration were recorded. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, the exact Wilcoxon signed-rank test, and Hedges' effect size. Results: No statistically significant differences were found between the two training sessions. CP showed greater proximity to the ventilatory, respiratory, and cardiovascular responses observed during the cardiopulmonary exercise test (CPET), whereas blood lactate concentration and heart rate variability exhibited similar responses between sessions, with considerable inter-individual variability. Conclusion: CP and FTP produced similar physiological and metabolic responses. However, power-based training planning should be complemented with physiological indicators to optimize training individualization in para-athletes. | eng |
