| dc.description.abstract | Este estudio explora la influencia de un agente conversacional de inteligencia artificial (IA) en el engagement de estudiantes de un curso virtual de inglés como lengua extranjera (EFL) en Tec Alianza, una institución colombiana de educación superior. El estudio involucró a 29 estudiantes adultos matriculados en un curso básico de inglés. Se desarrolló un estudio de caso cualitativo mediante el diseño e implementación de un agente conversacional de IA que proporcionó apoyo académico, orientación, práctica lingüística, recordatorios y retroalimentación a través de WhatsApp. Los datos fueron recolectados mediante entrevistas semiestructuradas, notas de campo, una escala de engagement, registros de interacción con el agente y reportes del LMS. Los datos fueron analizados mediante análisis de contenido cualitativo y triangulación. Los resultados sugieren que la intervención contribuyó positivamente al engagement conductual, emocional y cognitivo al promover accesibilidad, continuidad y acompañamiento pedagógico personalizado. Sin embargo, se identificaron limitaciones en el engagement social, la profundidad de las interacciones y el desarrollo de procesos cognitivos profundos. En conjunto, el estudio contribuye a la comprensión de cómo las intervenciones de IA diseñadas por docentes pueden integrarse pedagógicamente para apoyar el engagement en contextos virtuales de aprendizaje de EFL. | spa |
| dc.description.abstractenglish | This study explores the influence of an AI conversational agent on students’ online engagement in a virtual EFL course at Tec Alianza, a Colombian higher education institution. The study involved 29 adult learners enrolled in a foundational English course. A qualitative case study was conducted through the design and implementation of an AI conversational agent that provided academic support, guidance, language practice, reminders, and feedback through WhatsApp. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews, field notes, an engagement scale, AI interaction logs, and LMS reports. The data were analyzed through qualitative content analysis and triangulation. Findings suggest that the intervention positively contributed to behavioral, emotional, and cognitive engagement by promoting accessibility, continuity, and personalized pedagogical support. However, limitations were identified in social engagement, interactional depth, and deeper cognitive processes. Overall, the study contributes to understanding how teacher-designed AI interventions can be pedagogically integrated to support engagement in online EFL learning contexts. | eng |
