Exploring artificial intelligence in EFL education in Colombian : a documentary analysis of research, policy, and pedagogical practices.

Abstract

This study describes the current landscape of research production, policy development, and pedagogical practices regarding the integration of Artificial Intelligence on EFL teaching and learning in Colombia. Adopting a qualitative approach, documentary research design, twenty-two sources were analyzed-including undergraduate thesis, master’s research, journal articles, and national policy documents from 2009 to 2025. The analysis and findings were organized around four categories: AI as a pedagogical tool, ethical and responsible use of AI, limitations and challenges in AI integration, and educational policy and institutional support.
