The study examined the relationship between indicators of problematic video game use, narrative-graphic creativity, and academic performance among 94 eighth-grade students at Miguel Antonio Caro Educational Institution in Funza, Cundinamarca. The ADITEC-V, PIC-J, and grade records were used as instruments. The research followed a quantitative, non-experimental, cross-sectional, and descriptive-correlational design, applying descriptive statistics, normality tests, and Spearman correlations. ADITEC-V scores were interpreted as indicators of problematic use rather than clinical diagnoses. No significant associations were found with academic performance measures. However, low-magnitude negative relationships were identified with the narrative measures of the PIC-J, particularly in the abstinence dimension. The PIC-J showed positive associations with academic performance, especially in the narrative component. Fluency and flexibility demonstrated the most consistent relationships with grades. Parental support and school behavior were also strongly and positively associated with academic performance, although they played a contextual role. In conclusion, the relationships among the variables were differentiated. Indicators of problematic use were not linked to lower grades, while narrative creativity showed a broader correspondence with academic achievement. The findings call for cautious interpretation, avoiding causal or generalized claims about the effects of video game use.eng
