This article is part of a larger study and aims to identify trends and challenges in school algebra and its relationship with argu-mentation processes in the field of research in Mathematics Education. The review was carried out in three moments: first, the information was searched in databases from 2010 to 2021; second, the information was classified and organized by applying inclusion and exclusion criteria; and third, the review was prepared by grouping the documents into five categories: characte-rization of the nature of algebraic reasoning, the relationships between argumentation and algebraic reasoning, the difficulties of students with mathematical language for the treatment of algebraic expressions, the representation aids for the development of algebraic reasoning, and the characterization of algebraic reasoning. From this review, some trends were established, such as the persistent dichotomy between the transition from arithmetic to algebra, the emergency zone of algebra, and the pedagogical knowledge of mathematics teachers. Additionally, certain challenges were identified, such as the need to propose research aimed at strengthening processes in students, such as communication, reasoning, and argumentation.

In this reflection article, derived from the research: Conceptions on the pedagogical in the national research groups classified by Minciencias in the area of pedagogy, we take some representatives of the pedagogy of the spiritual sciences to provide a preliminary basis for what is currently named as the disciplinary and professional field of Pedagogy in Colombia. Disciplinary, because it is composed of a set of theories and concepts that have education and training as issues, circulating through institutions, research groups and academic networks in which Pedagogy objectifies as a science. Professional because it refers to the formalization of educational practices within national education systems, which in Germany has given rise to the so-called “teaching professions”. In this way, the Pedagogy of the spiritual sciences has as its referents the pedagogical conceptions of Immanuel Kant and Friedrich Herbart, who laid the foundations of scientific pedagogy. Subsequently, authors such as Eduard Spranger, René Hubert, Wilhelm Flitner and Hubert Henz contributed to its consolidation. Even though modern pedagogy began to be founded in the 18th century, its scientific nature is still questioned in Colombia, and there is a persistent misconception that pedagogy refers to the teacher’s knowledge about teaching.

This article presents some reflections on teacher identity as a category, proposing its resignification and reconceptualization according to the deconstructive perspectives developed by authors such as Judith Butler and Stuart Hall. On the methodological level, analytical operations are used in the Derridian style, unraveling the other that goes unnoticed in the identity phenomenon. In principle, the state of the discussion is introduced by the reconstruction of historical and epistemic elements of the concept, recognizing analytical approaches and emphasizing essentialist and constructivist perspectives. Then, deconstructive considerations are made about teacher identity, from its contingency, dislocation, political nature, and exclusion dynamics that end up prefiguring a constitutive exterior. It proposes to privilege the concept of teacher identifications due to the symbolic resources with which teachers operate.

¿“Formación integral”? Resemantización y vínculo con el pensamiento crítico.
(Editorial Universidad Pedagógica Nacional, 2024-07-01) Hernández Rodríguez, Juan Camilo; Castaño Trujillo, Cárol Viviana; Quiñones Bermúdez, Sebastián; Marín Cardona, Pablo Felipe
In recent decades, the term “comprehensive education” has become common in school and institutional environments. However, the confusions, ambiguities, and indiscriminate use of this concept have led to its trivialization. Therefore, this reflective article presents an exposition on how comprehensive education has been understood and how it should be approached according to its etymology and educational science theories. Subsequently, it proposes to relate the concept of “comprehensive education” with some models of critical thinking, as well as to expose its curricular articulation and mission functions of university educations.

(Editorial Universidad Pedagógica Nacional, 2022-01-01) Castaño Pineda, Yeferson; Lopera Uribe, Gloria Elena; Betancurth Loaiza, Diana Paola; Villa Vélez, Lilliana; Vásquez Velázquez, Ana María; Escobar Paucar, Gloria Matilde; Bastidas Acevedo, Miryam; Bolívar Buriticá, Wilson; Gómez Correa, Jaime Arturo; Peñaranda Correa, Fernando
The paper presents the findings of a research study aimed at understanding how Paulo Freire’s theory of Popular Education was implemented in the construction of a proposal for child-rearing education, with a population in a situation of poverty and extreme injustice. This qualitative study is the systematization of the experience of four research projects through the historical reconstruction of research and educational praxis: an interdisciplinary action research project, as a framework in which three doctoral projects were nested. The framework project was headed to understanding Thematic Research proposed by Freire, generating a process of education and transformation for students and educators; the first doctoral project was aimed at unders-tanding child-rearing; the second doctoral project was focused in the participatory problematization of the child-rearing carried out, and the third doctoral project made it possible to design the pedagogical proposal.

(Editorial Universidad Pedagógica Nacional, 2024-01-01) Espinel Bernal, Oscar
The proximity to other disciplines, knowledge(s), issues, and fields of action makes pedagogy an always moving scenario, in permanent reconstruction, as well as in a continuous process of reconceptualization. Having this in mind, this article intends to map the contemporary debates in the Colombian context in order to retake the question regarding pedagogy. The proposed diagram highlights pedagogy as a field in (re)constitution due to its plural, dynamic and heterogeneous nature, while also suggests that pedagogy serves as a field of the constitution of subjects, practices, discourses, and relations. In this article, key aspects such as the place of research, training, and teaching within pedagogical action will be included.

(Editorial Universidad Pedagógica Nacional, 2023-01-01) Moreno Caro, Omar Camilo
Determining the conditions and objectives of political formation is a problem because it is not clear from the outset what role politics has in educational institutions, especially in the school. From Arendt’s point of view, the incisive insistence on the poli-tical role of education and the school is suspect if one takes into account the evident inequality that exists between students and teachers. Thus, it is perceptible that classrooms are a space of plurality that found the possibility of action, so the ultimate foundation of politics is not possible. Nevertheless, at present, there is a fairly well-founded consensus on the importance of political education in the classroom and the need that current democracies have for this type of education. However, Arendt’s edict on the impossibility of a public sphere in the classroom is not enough since it is necessary to rethink the political (or pre-political) role of the classroom. Thus, this article is introduced in Hannah Arendt’s thought to deepen how politics enters the classroom and, from there, to propose a series of useful criteria for the teacher to have the opportunity to manage exercises of genuine political formation. The central idea developed in this paper is that, although the classroom is not a political space, it is a condition of possibility for politics in contemporary democracies. However, for this to be so, an understanding of classroom work that focuses on the construction of a common world must be achieved.

The teaching of Foreign Languages (especially English) in Spanish-speaking territories often brings significant inherent cha-llenges, not only due to the importance of mastering it but also because, over the years, different proposals have been developed to make acquisition of essential knowledge easier and more effective. This reflective article aims to analyze the history of the foreign language teaching from a pedagogical perspective, considering the possibilities and the role the teacher plays in the process. The results of reflection highlight the variations that have occurred over time and the contribution that the teacher makes by observing tudent needs. Thus, the teacher plays a decisive role in the effective application of the methods used, whose usefulness largely depends on how the teacher uses them and the particular abilities of each student

This article is the result of the “Teachers Dialogues, experience meetings from the pedagogical perspective” research, in which we analyze the stigma surrounding the role of being a child educator, as well as the weakening of their pedagogical training. From the methodological perspective of Research-Training-Action, dialogical encounters with active teachers take place to implement systematization processes of their experiences. Some of the major findings refer to the positioning of pedagogy as the essence of the experience of being a teacher, the role of narratives in the problematization of teaching practices, and how research and pedagogic innovation constitute routes of intellectual emancipation. The findings highlight the epistemological and conceptual elaborations achieved by the students to identify the places of enunciation of the pedagogical experiences in their different ways of textual documentation; the horizontal and collective reflexivity as a support of the pedagogical knowledge generated through the narratives of educational action when interacting as a “mirror pair”; and the approach to the understanding of notions in the teaching profession such as experience, knowledge and pedagogical practice. As a whole, these findings allow them to approach the debates inherent in their profession, and to critically redefine their ethical-political, social and cultural commitment as educators of the new generations, taking into account the realities of the country at the present time.

Comparative education since its origins in the nineteenth century has moved under the principle of transfer of educational experiences from one country to another. However, it is from the second half of the twentieth century to the present, when the right to education is universalized, that it has taken greater boom and validity in Latin American education. The interest in this text is to locate a good part of its discussions and possible topics within the framework of the history of the present time mediated by a particular temporality, accompanied by digital technology and cultural globalization.
