dc.description.abstractEsta revisión sistemática analiza el Efecto de la Edad Relativa (RAE) en el fútbol femenino. El RAE ocurre cuando las jugadoras nacidas al inicio del año de selección pueden tener ventajas frente a aquellas nacidas en los últimos meses del mismo año. El objetivo fue sintetizar la evidencia científica sobre el RAE según la categoría de juego, posición, rendimiento deportivo y contexto deportivo, incluyendo Mundiales, Juegos Olímpicos y ligas nacionales femeninas, a partir de una revisión sistemática.Se realizó una revisión sistemática siguiendo las directrices PRISMA, consultando Google Académico, PubMed, Scopus, SportDiscus, ScienceDirect y Web of Science. Se analizaron estudios publicados hasta el 2 de marzo de 2026. En total, se incluyeron 44 estudios con 95.675 participantes. Los resultados muestran que el RAE en el fútbol femenino no presenta un comportamiento uniforme. Sin embargo, aparece con mayor frecuencia en categorías juveniles que en la categoría Senior. Además, las defensas y centrocampistas muestran una mayor presencia de jugadoras nacidas en los primeros meses del año de selección. Esta revisión permite comprender mejor cómo la fecha de nacimiento puede influir en la selección y desarrollo de las futbolistas. Conocer este fenómeno puede ayudar a reducir la exclusión de jugadoras nacidas en los últimos meses del año y favorecer procesos de detección y desarrollo del talento más justos y a largo plazo.spa
dc.description.abstractenglishThis systematic review analyzes the Relative Age Effect (RAE) in women’s football. The RAE occurs when players born at the beginning of the selection year may have advantages over those born in the final months of the same year. The objective was to synthesize the scientific evidence on the RAE according to playing category, playing position, sports performance, and sporting context, including Women’s World Cups, Olympic Games, and national women’s leagues through a systematic review. A systematic review was conducted following the PRISMA guidelines, consulting Google Scholar, PubMed, Scopus, SportDiscus, ScienceDirect, and Web of Science. Studies published up to March 2, 2026 were analyzed. In total, 44 studies involving 95,675 participants were included. The results show that the RAE in women’s football does not follow a uniform pattern. However, it occurs more frequently in youth categories than in the Senior category. In addition, defenders and midfielders show a greater presence of players born in the first months of the selection year. This review provides a better understanding of how birth date may influence the selection and development of female football players. Understanding this phenomenon may help reduce the exclusion of players born in the later months of the year and promote fairer, long-term talent identification and development processes.eng
