This study aimed to compare the effects of threshold (THR) and polarized (POL) training intensity distribution models on physiological and performance variables in recreational female 10-km runners from Bogotá and Soacha, Colombia. A quasi-experimental design with randomized intergroup allocation, double-blind procedures, and a pretest–posttest approach was employed. Sixteen women aged 27 to 37 years participated and were assigned to two groups (POL, n = 8; THR, n = 8). The intervention lasted 12 weeks and included four weeks of standardized adaptation training followed by eight weeks of model-specific training. The variables assessed were estimated VO₂max, resting heart rate, ventilatory thresholds (VT1 and VT2), maximal aerobic speed (MAS), and 10-km race time. Physiological measurements were obtained using the Polar H10 sensor and Kubios HRV Scientific software, while running performance was evaluated on an athletics track. The results showed improvements in all measured variables in both groups. No statistically significant differences were found between the training models (p > .05). However, the POL group demonstrated greater increases in estimated VO₂max (+3.1%) and superior 10-km race performance. In addition, the POL group achieved a larger absolute improvement in VT1 compared with the THR group. The lack of significant differences was primarily attributed to the small sample size. It was concluded that both training models are effective for improving physiological and performance outcomes in recreational female runners, although the polarized model showed a more favorable trend in the magnitude of the observed adaptations.eng
