According to the postulates of the British historian Peter Burke, to bet on the cultural history of education is to bet on searching in those areas of the past that have gone unnoticed, to put the magnifying glass on the micro, the everyday and the routine; to analyze the silences, the unsaid. In this sense, the interest of this book was, through a rigorous analysis of the school uniform in Colombia between 1827 and 1920 (as a distinctive mark, as a classification criterion and as a form of social segregation), to investigate the conditions that produced the schooled body and the main characteristics assigned to the school subject in the discourses and practices linked to the uniform. The reading from the margin made possible by the cultural history of school objects, in this case, the school uniform and dress codes at school, articulates practices, actors, school knowledge, experiences, discourses and institutional processes, which allows understanding correlations, hierarchies and a system built from moral values, hygienic principles, aesthetic precepts and body practices at school, within the framework of an aesthetic and democratic project that, perhaps, the school has not stopped to agitate.
