O referencial teórico da pesquisa contempla estudos sobre o currículo e as práticas educativas. A pesquisa, de abordagem qualitativa, contou com entrevistas com professoras dos anos iniciais de uma escola pública da rede municipal de uma cidade do norte de Santa Catarina – Brasil. Por meio de análise de conteúdo, os resultados ressaltam a necessidade da profissionalização dos professores e de autonomia curricular. Portanto, é preciso uma discussão coletiva de um projeto educacional que partilhe um currículo onde se respeite as diversidades culturais e sociais das crianças, assim como da comunidade.This article provides reflections on teachers’ challenges in the initial years of elementary school concerning their teaching and curriculum practices. The theoretical reference of the research includes studies on the curriculum and the teaching practices. The research, with a qualitative approach, consisted of interviews with teachers from the initial years of a teaching institution of the municipal public network of the municipal network in a city in the north of Santa Catarina - Brazil. Through content analysis, the results highlight the need for the professionalization of teachers and curricular autonomy.
